This meteorite was acquired from the Bethany Sciences collection and comes in a display box with an informational Certificate of Authenticity.

This Canyon Diablo meteorite was found in the mid 1800s in Coconino County, Arizona, and is classed as a coarse octahedrite. It fell about 30,000 years ago, creating a crater 4,000 feet across and 600 feet deep. It is believed that the meteorite vaporized upon impact. Trace amounts of platinum and black diamond have been identified in specimens of Canyon Diablo, which is otherwise about 90% iron and 10% nickel. If cut and polished, this piece will display the Widmanstätten pattern.
