Riedel created the Vinum series in 1986 with specific designs that accentuated the characteristics of a grape varietal. Vinum was not developed on a drawing board, but in tasting workshops based on the performance commands the shape to deliver superior performance. Vinum is executed in lead-free crystal, which is machine blown in Bavaria, Germany to meet the same quality and clarity as of Riedel's glassware.

The Champagne glass is perfect for developing and displaying champagne’s complex characteristics. This glass allows the wide range of aromatics to unfold. Unlike a flute, the egg-shaped design allows the complex layers to grow and intensify, and the larger rim diameter enables them to be released in a way which is not achieved with a narrow glass. The glass also includes a 'sparkling point' to aid the formation of the Champagne bubbles.
