Riedel created the Vinum series in 1986 with specific designs that accentuated the characteristics of a grape varietal. Vinum was not developed on a drawing board, but in tasting workshops based on the performance commands the shape to deliver superior performance. Vinum is executed in lead-free crystal, which is machine blown in Bavaria, Germany to meet the same quality and clarity as of Riedel's glassware.

The Port glass is perfect to highlight the rich fruit and sweetness characteristic of port. During a series of tastings conducted in London and Austria, some of the world's greatest port experts selected this glass as the ideal shape. The glass combines all the positive characteristics established by research, emphasizing harmony and concentration of fruit.
